FAQs About Pediatrics at Empower!
Kansas is a direct access state, so you do NOT need a referral. However, some state insurances require an authorization and a referral helps get PT approved. A referral on file can help us see your child for long-term if warranted (over 3 months).
We are proud to offer these specialized services! At our Andover clinic we offer craniosacral & DMI therapy. These services typically require multiple sessions and we will recommend scheduling these appointments out to get the best benefit. Just call our clinic to see our earliest availability!
We only offer custom equipment assessments & ordering for current patients. This benefit allows us to closely monitor the usage, wear and need for adjustments. If you are receiving PT at a different clinic but want orthotics for your child, please give us a call to discuss the custom orthotic package we have. All pediatric patients at Empower have the benefit of getting assessed for orthotics if desired.
Our PTs have additional training in myofascial therapy to address tongue tie/lip ties - both for conservative treatment & if you choose to have the surgical revision. We recommend at least 1 visit prior to the tongue tie revision and we will perform gentle body work. It is then recommended to schedule after the surgery for a handful of weeks to ensure optimal outcomes. If you are unsure about if your child could benefit from this, you can call anytime for a free 20 minute consultation!
Most babies & children benefit best from 1-2 times a week for 3 months of PT, but every child is unique and will be recommended a plan that is tailored to their condition & findings. More severe & chronic cases may require ongoing care. If you have financial concerns, just call any of our offices to discuss your insurance benefits & you can schedule a free 20 minute consultation to talk through your child's needs with one of our pediatric PTs.
Our pediatric PTs see nearly exclusive pediatric caseloads, allowing them to gain extensive experience in pediatric interventions. Each of our pediatric therapists have unique certifications, so your child may see more than 1 pediatric PT during their care if you're interested in getting other services.
Our typical session is 40 minutes. However, some specialty services such as craniosacral therapy or DMI may require 1 hour depending on your child's age - if this applies to you, you will be notified so you can prepare ahead of time!
