Have Happy, Pain Free Feet

The foot is made up of 26 bones and has over 20 muscles just in the foot itself.  Together they are designed to provide the perfect balance of support, mobility, and stability to allow us to stand and walk all day long.

Common foot pains include plantar fasciitis, hammer toes, bunions, heel pain and metatarsal pain. Often if we begin to experience some type of pain in our feet we immediately think, “I need a new pair of shoes!”  Sometimes this may be the case, however our feet should be able to support and propel our body without pain whether we are wearing shoes or walking barefoot.

Our foot is the first thing that hits the ground with every step during the day.  If we take thousands of steps in a day our feet are bound to need a little TLC at some point in our lives

Causes of foot pain
Sometimes foot pain is related to a structural difference in the foot and sometimes this does need a specific type of shoe or a custom orthotic in order to provide the correct amount of support.  However, more commonly the pain comes about and the structure of the foot has changed due to the weakness of the intrinsic foot muscles as there is a direct correlation to foot pain and intrinsic foot muscle weakness.

How to fix foot pain with physical therapy

Just like any other muscle in the body these muscles can be trained and strengthened through specific exercises. This is where PT steps in to help.
