Get Rid of Chronic Back Pain
There is something you can do for that chronic back pain!
Do you have chronic low back pain? Do you get pain in your low back that is worse first thing in the morning or after prolonged sitting? Do you get aching and soreness while standing? Have you thought this is a pain that you just have to live with now?
The pain described above is most often associated with degenerative changes in the spine. Over time our spine experiences general wear and tear such as losing disc height or degeneration of cartilage. The discs in our spine act as shock absorbers – like the shocks on your car or truck. These can slowly lose effectiveness over time by decreasing in height or space (also the reason we tend to get shorter over time). The loss of cartilage in the smooth surfaces of our bones helps make contact between bones less strenuous and impactful. When this degenerates we often get “bone on bone” contact and pain. So what can be done?
In physical therapy we use an approach of joint mobility, joint lubrication, activity training, and hip/core strengthening to improve range of motion and decrease pain. By working on joint mobility and lubrication exercises we can decrease the stress between the joints with movement. Training for proper techniques while performing daily tasks can be done to help reduce stress and pain in the low back with bending, lifting, and squatting. And finally core and hip strength for reduction of joint aggravation and pain is performed with pain free exercises.
